Don't eat food 2 - 3 hours before the session (if it is not possible only light food)

Be in a comfortable, cozy place (Do not to this while driving!!) + blanket + water (not in glass bottle)

Have your camera pointed at you so the instructor can observe your breathing pattern

Bring your journal in case some valuable insights come to you

Do not have intense activities planned after the session

Have a pillow close to you (that you can use to scream into at the end of the session :-))

Medical contraindications

Holotropic breath work is an intense workout with a strong emotional release and possibly strong response by the body. Therefore Holotropic breath work is not suitable for you if you have following contraindications: 

1) Epilepsy

2) Pregnancy

3) Detached Retina

4) Glaucoma

5) High Blood Pressure that is not controlled with medication

6) Heart disease

7) Cardiovascular Disease (including but not limited to prior heart attack)

8) Use of Prescription Blood Thinners such as Coumadin

9) Hospitalization for any psychiatric condition or emotional crisis within the last 10 years

10) History of Aneurysms in immediate family

11) Strokes, TIAs, seizures or other brain/neurological condition or disease

12) Prior diagnosis by a health professional of bipolar disorder or schizophrenia

13) Osteoporosis whereby intense movement could cause physical issues

Note: Asthma is not a contraindication but there are other breathing exercises that are more suitable for you to begin with. Please message me if this is the case.

My first experience with Holotropic breathwork was actually in an online class and I was amazed on how deep I can go just, with the power of my breathe

Frequently asked questions about online holotropic breathwork

Is it safe to do online holotropic breathwork

Yes, it is safe to do online holotropic breathwork if none of the contraindications apply to you. It is especially important that you have a healthy heart.

Also,  it is better to start slow and familiarize yourself with this practice first  than to go all out on your first online holotropic breathwork session. 

In case you panic, there is nobody in person to help you calm down. So you should have a certain level of emotional stability within. 


How do I prepare for online holotropic breathwork

Do not eat 2 -3 hours before the session, or only lightly. 

Be in a comfortable place and have a blanket nearby. 

Watch the 2 YouTube videos about holotropic breathwork before you get join a session. 

Point your camera on yourself in a way so the instructor can observe your breathing pattern.
