I had the privilege to attend a 1 week retreat in August. The staff (Oliver, Jenna, and others) are humble and truly care about your experience. It was a challenging yet very rewarding week, and I grew closer to other participants as the retreat progressed.
The plant medicine and shamanic healing has allowed me to make positive lifestyle changes. It allows for healing of generational trauma and childhood wounds. Taking part in a retreat of this nature can be scary or daunting, but it’s very much worth it coming out the other side.

My 7-day retreat has been a true paradigm shift as well as a challenging yet rewarding journey. I’m proud of the way that myself and other brave souls managed to challenge our minds and bodies in ways unimaginable. Doing inner work is NEVER easy, but the only way out is always through. I thank Oliver, Kevin, Jenna, Vanessa, and everyone else who contributed to my divine experience. Food is well-balanced and can accommodate your diet. I strongly recommend 4 ceremonies instead of 2, as you may not connect with the medicine right away. Namaste 🙏🏼

I came after many therapies that only helped temporarily, and—with Oliver’s guidance, thoughtful preparation, and a welcoming environment—the first ceremony steadied me while the second became a breakthrough where decades of pain released. I left replacing hate with love, finding forgiveness and real peace, and I’m grateful to the team and eager to return with my son.

Stories - 1001 Nights of Ayahuasca
Letting Go
Attending the Harmonica retreat was one of the most profound and enlightening experiences of my life. While the work was undeniably intense and at times deeply confronting, it was exactly what my spirit needed. This was not a vacation—it was a sacred journey inward, one that asked me to face my fears, release old patterns, and truly surrender to the medicine. And in that surrender, something powerful shifted. I feel like I left a version of myself behind and returned more aligned with who I truly am 🌱.
One of the most beautiful takeaways was the bonds I formed with other participants. The shared vulnerability and intention of the group created a deep sense of connection that I will carry with me always. Lifelong connections were formed, and I felt truly seen in ways I never have before 💫.
This retreat taught me that healing is not always gentle, but it is always sacred. The path to reintegration begins the moment you surrender. For anyone considering this work, my advice is to come with an open heart, clear intentions, and a willingness to let go of everything you think you know. Trust the facilitators. Trust the medicine. Trust yourself. You will not leave the same person you arrived as 🕊️.
Thank you, Harmonica, for holding me through such a transformational chapter. I am forever grateful.
FAQ - Ayahuasca for LGBTQ Individuals
A safe, inclusive space for healing - regardless of identity.
Yes - unconditionally. Harmonica is non-dogmatic and non-religious by design. Your gender identity, sexual orientation, and personal expression are respected fully. The team includes female facilitators and the approach combines indigenous ceremonial wisdom with modern psychological understanding - not rigid spiritual frameworks that exclude. You will be met exactly as you are.
Harmonica's three foundational agreements - confidentiality, respect, and non-judgment - apply to every guest equally. Groups are max 12 people and self-select for openness by choosing a plant medicine retreat. In practice, Harmonica's guest community is consistently described as warm, open-minded, and deeply supportive. Read guest stories.
Yes. Many LGBTQ guests carry internalised shame, family rejection, or the trauma of hiding parts of themselves. Ayahuasca can surface these stored experiences and create space to process, release, and ultimately reconnect with self-acceptance at a level deeper than cognitive understanding alone.
Yes. Harmonica offers shared rooms (2-4 guests) included in the retreat price and private rooms available as an upgrade. If you have specific accommodation preferences related to comfort or safety, let the team know during your free consultation and we will accommodate.
Medellin is one of Colombia's most progressive cities for LGBTQ rights and culture. Same-sex marriage has been legal in Colombia since 2016. Our retreat is in a private mountain property outside the city. We coordinate all logistics - guests have no need to navigate the city independently unless they choose to. Location details.
Frequently Asked Questions: Queer Ayahuasca
Is this an LGBTQ+ only retreat?
No — Harmonica welcomes participants from all walks of life. This page exists because we recognise that LGBTQ individuals – whether gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, or non-binary – often carry specific experiences… Shame, rejection, the exhaustion of hiding — that deserve to be acknowledged directly. You’ll be in a mixed group, held in a container where confidentiality, respect, and non-judgment are foundational agreements for everyone present.
Is ayahuasca safe for LGBTQ individuals?
Yes. Ayahuasca itself makes no distinction — what matters is the safety of the container around it. At Harmonica, every participant goes through a health and medication screening beforehand, and our facilitators are experienced in holding space for the kinds of themes LGBTQ participants often bring: identity, internalized shame, family wounds, and self-worth. You will not be navigating this alone.
How do you ensure a non-judgmental space?
Three core agreements underpin every retreat at Harmonica — confidentiality, respect, and non-judgment. These aren’t aspirational values posted on a wall; they’re active commitments that every participant and facilitator enters into together. Pronouns are respected, boundaries are honoured, and nothing shared in ceremony or integration circles leaves the group.
What kinds of issues do LGBTQ+ participants typically work with?
Every person’s journey is their own, but common themes include internalized shame, the pain of family rejection, coming out experiences that were never fully processed, relationship patterns rooted in low self-worth, and the simple but profound question of what it feels like to exist without hiding. Ayahuasca has a way of bringing these things to the surface gently — and the integration work afterward helps you make sense of what came up.
How is integration handled after the retreat?
Integration is built into the retreat from the start, not added on as an afterthought. After each ceremony there are sharing circles and structured reflection time. Beyond the retreat itself, Harmonica offers ongoing monthly integration calls and support tools to help you carry your insights into daily life — particularly important when the insights touch something as personal as identity and self-acceptance.
Is it safe to attend if I've experienced discrimination or trauma?
Yes — and we’d say it’s worth being thoughtful rather than cautious. Many LGBTQ participants arrive carrying nervous system stress from years of navigating spaces that weren’t built for them. Our small group size (maximum 12), trauma-aware facilitation, and safety-first approach mean you can move at your own pace. You won’t be pushed, and you won’t be alone.
