Is ayahuasca safe for couples to do together?
Yes — for most couples, attending together is not only safe but deeply meaningful. As with any retreat, each person goes through a standard health and medication screening beforehand to ensure ayahuasca is appropriate for them individually. The retreat setting at Harmonica is designed to hold each person’s experience safely, whether you’re sitting side by side or moving through very different inner worlds on the same night.
Can we attend the same ceremony together?
Yes. Couples attend the same ceremonies as the rest of the group. You’ll be in the same space, though ayahuasca is a deeply personal journey — you may find yourself in very different inner experiences even while physically together. Many couples find this is actually one of the most valuable parts: witnessing each other go through something real, without needing to manage or fix it for the other person.
What if one of us has done ayahuasca before and the other hasn't?
This is more common than you might think. Our facilitators are experienced in supporting both first-timers and returning participants within the same ceremony. The more experienced partner is encouraged to focus on their own process rather than guiding or reassuring the other — and our team will be fully present to support whoever needs it. Often, the difference in experience levels becomes irrelevant once the medicine begins.
What if the ceremony brings up conflict or difficult feelings between us?
It can happen, and it’s nothing to fear. Ayahuasca has a way of surfacing what’s already present — if tension exists, it may become more visible. What matters is the container around it. Our facilitators are trained to hold space for relational material, and integration sessions after ceremony give you both a structured space to process whatever came up together. Many couples describe these moments as the most honest conversations they’ve ever had.
